Masthead

We recommend the extruded because the masthead box is made from an extrusion and is bolted into the top of the mast.
Cast mast heads can be attached to larger masts by welding and the smaller ones by riveting.

Masthead rigs have 4 sheaves and 2 toggles which allows for 2 genoa halyards, a main halyard and a topping lift all to run internally. An external spinnaker crane takes a single block which will allow the spinnaker halyard to be run either internally via a chaffe plate or externally. Single or double spinnaker cranes are available.

Fractional rigs have the masthead box welded into the top of the section, with a wide range of forestay take offs available.

Extruded Masthead

Consist of an aluminuim box T extrusion cut shaped and drilled to suit mast.
The whole unit is then cut into the top of the mast extrusion and through bolted into place.

As the name suggests this type of masthead is made from an extrusion ans is cut into the section. With masthead rigs the box is normally bolted in but fractional rigs it is welded.

Normally the box has delrin sheaves, with a dividing plate, fully articulated toggles and seperate pins for the sheave. The botled in masthead type is easily removed (with mast down) for either servicing or greater access to the inside of the section. Single or double spinnaker cranes are available.

Riveted Cast Masthead

These constist of a backstay cappell type crane and have single sheave for internal main halyard. Topping lift and genoa halyards are catered for by fitting sheave exit boxes
The forestay itself is on a serperate internal fitting.

Welded Cast Masthead

These are cut in to the top of the section and as you can see from the picture they are cut at a slight angle. They have sheaves for two genoa halyards, main halyard and topping lift.

Forestay and backstays attach via cappell terminals.

This type of masthead is made from a casting and is cut into the section and is welded into place.

Normally the box has delrin sheaves, with dividing plates. The forestay and backstay attach using stemball type fittings. Sheaves and pins are easily replaced by removing top cover and dropping into the masthead from the top.

Provision is also made for the attachment of cap shrouds in the masthead via a slot in side of the mast section. This provision uses stemball type terminals.

A fractional version is also avaiable with the same basic components.
