Mast Foot

Choosing Deck Stepped or Keel Stepped depends on the design of the boat.

Other options include Tabernacle, Hinge Heel (for smaller boats) and we have also detailed the tabernacle Mast Raising and Lowering System that we have.

Deck Stepped

The mast section fits to the deck step by sitting on it and in it too. The base is an anodised casting that has a recess to the shape of the mast extrusion and with further upstand locating lugs.

Blocks for leading halyards aft can easily be fitted via pins that fit into recesses on the underside of the base.

Kicker return provisions are also incororperated

Keel Stepped

The later keel stepped mast feet have a clamping rubber collar and the older ones have wooden wedges and a seperate mast coat.

With keel stepped masts the bottom of the mast extrusion sits on the keel. This means that the mast has to fit though the deck. A deck collar is provided which has the same halyard block system as the deck step. It is supplied with either wooden wedges, mast coat and coat clips or as a compression rubber wedge system.

The section sits on a mast base on the keel which is normally a shaped casting fitting the mast profile with a flat base.

Water dams are fitted above deck level and tie rods fitted below deck. The water dam is to stop any water making its way the inside of the mast while the tie rod stops the deck lifting is halyward blocks fitted to the deck collar.

  Tabernacle

When the mast is tabernacle stepped the mast extrusion has aluminium tubes welded accross the section so as to locate with the tabernacle bolts. The bottom of the mast is filled with an angle base plate so as to remove the corner of the section. It is important that the rig weight is put onto the base and not the tabernacle tubes, this can be achieved by having a wedge under the base

Hinge Heel

Used on the smaller masts for occassional raising and lowering of the mast. Incorporate sheaves for the leading halyard out from the side of the mast. The maximum halyard size is 8mm
