Kickers

kicker Sailspar supply two different types of kicker, the spring kicker and the gas kicker. The advantage of both these types is that a topping lift is no longer needed and so reefing becomes a simpler operation.
The spring kicker, shown in the top picture, works on the principle of a spring pushing the ends of the tube apart. As the tubes are forced apart, the tensioning line is released and this then lifts the outboard end of the boom. The spring kicker has sheaves incorporated into its ends, needs no blocks and comes complete with its own line. It has fork fittings top and bottom but no lead blocks are included for leading the rope aft.
The gas kicker is slimmer and has gas struts incorporated inside to push the ends apart. 1 to 4 gas struts can be fitted in these kickers and they can also be fitted parallel to each other to give the kicker more power. The gas kicker has fork fittings top and bottom. Additionally, they need to have a wire, rope and blocks to lead the rope aft, as these are not included.
